Queer Tango Wellington

Find intimate silence and learn to listen with your body. Argentine Tango is an improvised dance, requiring intense concentration on the connection between partners. Mastery of the capacity to create physical connection imparts serenity, grounding, and – with remarkable frequency – elation. Tango will also improve your balance, assertiveness, and sensitivity. And it’s sexy… 

 You do not need to bring a partner, previous dance experience, or “rhythm”. 

We encourage gender complexity and exploration. Everyone is welcome! Tango has no age limit.

$10 per class.

Mondays 7-9pm, either at Crossways or occasionally at the Tararua Tramping Club (both in Mount Victoria). Check the “Monday’s class” page on the left-hand side, or look for the regular announcements on this site about the location each week (including address and map).

Inspired by Argentine Tango, Distraction Camp is playing at BATS Theatre (9pm) until 11 September. For tango enthusiasts they are offering a special two-for-one deal ($20) on Thursday 2 September and Friday 3 September.

SPRING TANGO MILONGA & SALSA BALL

..at the Ruby lounge..

• Argentine tango showcase from Alex and Jacinta and Vio and Sanjay at 8.20pm

There will be a tango lesson at 3pm, followed by a tango milonga from 3.30-8.30pm.  Great music from DJ Cabezudo playing all your favorite tangos, dreamy vals to make you sigh and some cheeky little milongas guaranteed to make you smile. Tango nuevo mix later in the evening to put some groove into your tango style.  Tapas and dinner available from the Ruby Lounge Bistro.

At 8:30pm, salsa takes over, with a lesson followed by a salsa ball from 9pm-2am. Live music from Carlos Navae and son Clave, plus a great range of latin DJs.

Balanzar Tango are performing this coming Friday 20 August at Estadio in Blair St from 8pm – 10pm.  There will be a milonga until midnight, entry is free and meals and bar facilities are available.

The class (taught by Vio and her lovely assistant Sanjay) and practica for Monday 9 August will be held from 7-9pm at the Crossways Community Hall,  4 Roxburgh St, Mount Victoria. $10 at the door and the class starts at 8pm. This week the class will focus again on deep technique for elastic, powerful rebotes.  Come along and make the most of Vio’s fantastic classes while she’s still in Wellington…

It’s official – Vio is staying in Wellington for August and she’ll be running a number of different classes during the week for dancers of all levels. She’s also available for private lessons.
